Issue No 403
18th May 2007
Dear Friends of Crescent,
Hannah Allroggen of Class III has completed the Golden Challenge and therefore knows all times tables facts sufficiently. Well done, Hannah. Congratulations are also due to Hannah and to Madeline Anderson, also of Class III, for being granted Pen Licenses. Their hand writing is now consistently good enough for them to switch from pencil to pen.
Recently there was a ‘near miss’ between a car and a child at the entrance to the school car park. Please could adults collecting children take them off the premises through the pedestrian gate at the end of the footpath where there are barriers to prevent children running out into the road? There are no such barriers on the school drive so it is an inherently more dangerous route to take.
On Friday of next week Class VI are putting on a short concert after which there will be a retiring collection for the Bwengu Village project. This concert is all their own work and I hope parents of children in other classes will feel able to support it. They cordially invite you to have a cup of tea at 3.45 p.m. prior to the concert starting at 4.00 p.m. in the Barrett Hall.
Yours sincerely,
R. H. Marshall
School Gardens
School council are presently trying to make the school gardens more Eco-friendly, to encourage insects and other wildlife to inhabit the garden areas.
To do so we are in need of some good plants and definitely some good advice to help us on our way to some nature friendly gardens where bright flowers are let to grow wild.
If you have any old plants in healthy conditions that are just sitting in the corner of the garden, but you know they attract insects we would be happy to have them. We also want a kind parent to water the plants and give some good advice about how to grow them. If you know your stuff on gardening and would be happy to give up some extra time to contribute we would be most grateful.
Please contact Mrs Gove or any senior school council representative for some information or a contribution.
Thank you.

Nursery News
This week we are talking about “Eggs and Life-cycles”
We have been given some tadpoles and we will follow their progress during the next few weeks. The children will look after the tadpoles as they get bigger, grow legs and lose their tails.
This morning we were outside searching for caterpillars and the children made and decorated their own caterpillars using coloured card and glitter.

As promised, the Committee have planned an afternoon of Family Bingo after school on Friday,
8th June. It will start at 4pm and finish at approx 5.15pm. The cost will be £2.00 for children and include a sandwich-style tea. The cost will be free for adults with tea/coffee. Please try to accompany your children and make this a family event.
Please can you complete the slip in the newsletter so that we have numbers to cater for the children’s tea. (Tickets will not be issued). Please return the completed slip to school via the school office or a FOC rep.
Plans and preparations are well under way for the Crescent BBQ on Sunday, 1st July. The committee has put together a ‘wish list’ for raffle prizes on the notice board just inside the side school entrance. If you are interested in donating for the raffle, please put your name against the prize and then at your convenience leave it in the box under the list.
Thank you in anticipation.

Chairman.
