Child Actors Make Impression

Florence Chapman of Class IV and a former pupil, Lawrence Stephenson, played leading roles in Rugby Theatres’s recent production ‘The Turn of the Screw’.  I quote from the Rugby Advertiser’s review of the show:

‘Miles, played by Lawrence Stephenson and nine-year-old Florence Chapman who plays Flora are both superb.

Playing 19th century children with upper class mannerisms is always going to be difficult for the local youngsters but they handle their parts expertly.

Both are entirely believeable as delightful; but devious children ..’

Our congratulations to them both.

Pen Licence

Congratulations to Emily Fowkes of Class III on being awarded a pen licence.

Class VI’s Bwengu Concert

Class VI’s concert in aid of the Bwengu Project was a great success and much enjoyed by all who were there.  The children laid on tea and cakes followed by a concert of music, speech and drama asking for donations to support the work instigated by Mr and Mrs Melia in Malawi.

The concert raised £222 to add to the figure of nearly £1600 we had raised previously.  Crescent was the first school to respond to

Mr and Mrs Melia’s appeal and have raised some 18% of the total funds raised.  These monies will refurbish classrooms, provide furniture and books, a health centre and much more.  The Melia’s attended the concert and have asked me to pass on to the children their deepest thanks for all their efforts.  They have now gone back to Malawi to oversee the next stage of the project and will return in the autumn with photographs showing how the money raised has been spent. Further details can be found on the website: www.bwenguprojects.co.uk

Fountain Pens

Please can all children from Year 4 upwards have their own fountain pen.

A lot of children are using different pens that are not helping their handwriting and presentation.

Working Mums – Have you got a story to share?

Karen Powell (Mum of Laura in Class 6 and Isabel in Class 3) is writing a self help book with a friend for wannabe working mums and is looking for some true life stories of the issues and challenges, both practical and emotional, that comes with looking to juggle both a career and a family for possible inclusion in the book and as part of their research into the area.

Have you got a story to share or a tale to tell that other new mums might benefit from hearing about?  Are you a working mum yourself and would like to be a case study?

Through real life case studies, “So You Want To Be a Working Mum” will provide a new perspective on the dilemmas that new mothers face and will explore some of the creative work solutions and strategies women have opted for as they took on their new responsibilities as a parent.

From YOUR experience, who determines what is possible or unthinkable when combining a career and children?  Who are the winners and losers?  What are the compromises?  Which are the role model businesses out there?

This is a really exciting new project and we are keen to involve as many people as we can including hopefully a few celebrities along the way!!

Challenge current thinking and prompt new solutions to difficult problems by calling me on 01788 815885/mailing at karen.powell16@btinernet.com or seeing me (Karen) at school.

Early Reminder

There is a rehearsal for “Alice the Musical” on Sunday, 17th June for all members of Classes V and VI and members of the choir in Classes III and IV.  For greater convenience of all I have moved the start time half an hour later to 3 p.m.  We will finish at 5 p.m. prompt.

Everyone involved with the choir will have at least two costumes.  For security of costumes it would be useful if every child brought into school a named, zipped garment carrier to store their garments as soon as possible.
