6th July 2007

Times Tables Challenge

Our congratulations to Sara Brown of Class III and Flora Courtney of Class IV for successfully completing the Times Tables Challenge.

LAMDA Exams

On Sunday several children took LAMDA exams in Speech and Drama. The first results are for the Preparatory exam and I am pleased to congratulate Daniel Brazier of Class II on passing with merit and Hannah Allroggen and Hattie Byrne of Class III on passing with distinction.

60th Anniversary

Next year we will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the school and the 20th anniversary of our move to Bilton. There will be a day of celebrations held on 28th June 2008 including a lunchtime barbeque at the school and a more formal dinner in the evening at the Draycote Manor Hotel. We plan to get in touch with as many former pupils as we can and invite them back to join us on the day. Please make a note of the date in your diaries and if you have the contact details of any former pupils, please let us have them in an envelope marked appropriately or by e-mail.

Alice the Musical

Tickets for the performance on the Wednesday evening are now sold out but there are plenty left for the Thursday afternoon. This production has been the most fantastic team effort coordinated by Mrs Ovens and all those involved deserve huge thanks. Helping out in a production such as this can be a bit like being a mum (so I am told!) – you have to turn your hand to anything and everything and you sometimes feel taken for granted. I hope that hasn’t been the case too often this time and that seeing the enjoyment the children have derived from taking part is some compensation.

I was pleased to award Honours Certificates to the following children:

Class VI – Laura Smith for outstanding athletic achievement and Emily Robertson for a positive attitude towards school;

Class V – Josie Brazier and Georgie Colbourne for outstanding effort and determination in Maths;

Class IV – Florence Chapman and George Humphrey for an outstanding year’s work and excellence in English; Dominic Bolton for an outstanding year’s work and excellence in Maths; Jack Davenport for working hard and achieving high standards in Maths;

Class III – Madeline Anderson for progress in Maths; Akari Kido for progress in all aspects of the English language;

Class II – Daniel Brazier for improved English skills and Amelia Trailor for all round improvement;

Class I – Ellie Andrew for consistently trying to achieve her best and Matthew Crompton for outstanding reading;

Reception – Gabrielle Brown for extremely polite and helpful nature; Matthew Smith for making good progress with reading and his cheerful attitude to school life.

Deportment Badges

St David’s – Madeline Anderson and Freya Noyce

St George’s – Abigail Bolton and Josie Brazier

St Andrew’s – Charlotte Bend and Florence Chapman

Congratulations to them all.

Summer Sports Course

At the moment there has been insufficient response for the Summer Sports Course, 16-18 July, to run.

I am happy to extend the deadline date to Monday, 9th July. Please return information to Mr Webb if your child/children would be interested.

The professional at Leam Valley gold Club is giving one hours tuition per day (We may have the next Tiger Woods here without knowing it!).

With thanks.

Pre-Prep Sports Day

Wednesday, 11th July

2.15 – 3.45 pm

All parents are warmly invited. Refreshments will be provided afterwards.

Having successfully and happily completed the Senior Sports Day, we are looking forward to the Pre-Prep Sports. Our weather pattern has been unseasonably wet, so please cross fingers and toes.

Should it be wet on the day then a decision will be made at 12.30 but no earlier. Please do not call the office until after 12.30.

Nursery News

We have been very busy in Nursery this week and the children enjoyed our Teddy Bears’ Picnic on Thursday. We were very lucky with the weather and we managed to take our teddies outside for jam sandwiches and fairy cakes.

We also had a successful induction morning on Friday and the children enjoyed going into Reception and spending the morning with Mrs Clayton and

Mrs Noyce. They especially enjoyed playing in the “big” playground.

The children are busy practising for Sports Day on Tuesday, 10th at 2.00 pm. If it is raining on the day the decision to cancel will be made at 12.30. Please ring 01788 523853 to confirm.

Please bring a team T-shirt, shorts and trainers into Nursery in a named carrier bag as soon as possible. Thank you.

This term Holiday Club will commence on Friday, 13th July 12 – 6 pm and Monday, 16th to Friday,

20th July 8 – 6 pm. Please come and see me for further information and a booking form. Please note that full payment must be enclosed with the booking form before a child can be registered and a place reserved in the Holiday Club.
