I cannot fully express how proud we all are, not just of these ten children who have been given these posts but equally of the fifteen who have been disappointed.  I cannot remember a year in which so many children were worthy of prefect status and the compassion the ten fortunate ones showed for those of their friends who were disappointed was quite remarkable.

The selection process this year had to be a little different from previous years because so many of the children involved are children of staff.  Under my direction we decided upon the posts that are required and then I, and other staff with children in Class VI, withdrew.  The children had written letters of application that were of an exceptionally high standard and the remaining staff selected pupils based on these letters and the criteria we had agreed upon.  The meeting took longer than usual and the results, I confess, surprised me a little but having heard the rationale behind them I now agree with them completely.  It just proves, yet again, that as a parent I cannot be objective about my own children!

I am also pleased to offer congratulations to five children who took speech exams during the summer holiday and passed with flying colours.

Parents of children in Class VI may have noticed that the date I chose for their consultation evening (having re-arranged it so as not to clash with senior school open evenings) coincides with an event at Rugby School.  I apologise for this clash and we will happily make other arrangements for you to meet with your children’s teachers.  All the other independent schools keep us informed of such events but, sadly, Rugby School choose not to.

Parents of children in Class V are encouraged to attend the meeting on Wednesday, 10th October when they will be able to meet representatives from local senior independent secondary schools.  Parents of children in other year groups will be just as welcome.

Open Days

On Friday, 12th and Monday, 15th October we are inviting prospective parents to come and look around the school between the hours of 10 00 and 15 00.  If you have friends or relatives who might be interested please encourage them to come along.  The Open Morning for existing parents will be held, as usual, on a Saturday morning later in the year.

With best wishes

R.H. Marshall

Nursery News

This half term our theme is “Ourselves”.  The children have been talking about their looks and recognising parts of their bodies.  We have been singing together and pointing to parts of our bodies at the same time.  The children have enjoyed making self-portraits with Miss Mistry using the computer, recognising their features and reproducing them. The children are invited to bring in photographs of themselves.

Ladies Indulgence and Shopping Evening

We are in the process of organising another evening similar to last year but bigger and better! If you know anyone who might like to attend as a seller of goods or services then please do give the details to either me, any committee member or leave them in the office for me. Thank you.
