Issue No 412
28th September 2007
Dear Friends of Crescent,
Of all the success stories I have brought to you over the past five years none quite compares with this one. On Wednesday morning Mrs Forth was successfully delivered of her twins; a girl and a boy. There is a saying about twins – “Double the joy, double the trouble”. In my experience this isn’t quite true; I’d say it’s at least quadruple! We wish Mr and
Mrs Forth every happiness and as much sleep at possible.
Most of Class VI will be sitting their 11+ tests for the Grammar Schools on Saturday, 6th October. We have been preparing them specifically for these verbal reasoning tests for the past twelve months and I would encourage all their parents to ensure that they (the children that is!) have a succession of early nights in the days before 6th October. It is a pity that the Lawrence Sheriff Open Evening is just two days before the tests, making it impossible to get the children to bed early that evening, but at least it is the same for everybody. I am very confident that a good number of our children will be offered places again this year.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
R. H. Marshall
Harvest Baskets
As in previous years, the children are being invited to bring harvest baskets to school during the coming week. These often take the form of a decorated box or basket containing fruit, vegetables, biscuits etc. As most of the people receiving baskets are elderly, tinned and dried goods are particularly welcome.
The majority of the baskets will be distributed at the end of the harvest festival service to local homes for the elderly and any child who includes his or her name in the basket may be lucky enough to receive a thank you letter from the grateful recipient!
It is always a pleasure to have the baskets in school, as they make the hall look so lovely for the harvest festival service and they give such a lot of pleasure to the people who receive them afterwards. The children can bring in individual or “family” baskets and we would be pleased if they could be brought to the children’s classrooms from Monday onwards.
Thank you.
S. Clayton

Thank you, Sainsbury’s
Many thanks to all our parents and friends who collected Sainsbury’s tokens.
The After School group counted a massive 22,000 tokens. New gym benches and balance beam have arrived, plus giant Garden Jenga and Chess for the older children and giant Snakes and Ladders for the younger ones. Four gym mats have still to come.
So, thank you everyone, all this new equipment will be well used.

Hello, Tesco Vouchers
It is now Tesco’s who have launched their new Vouchers for Sport. So, we would like to ask any parents and friends who shop at Tesco’s to start collecting.
Again a wide range of sports equipment is available through their catalogue. The collecting box is in the usual place near the After School signing in board.

Friends of the Crescent News
Quiz Night. Friday 12th October 7.30 for 8pm prompt start.
The Quiz is now in the final stages of being written and proves to be every bit as challenging as previous years, so please step up and complete the return slip at the foot of this page to have a chance to knock the Teachers off the “top spot”.
It will be run in the same format as last year, with rounds on various subjects. Each team will be issued with a joker to double their points on a round of their choice. There will be a prize for the best ‘feast’; last year one team had a curry delivered, others had a fondue and melted chocolate dip!
Teams are up to 6 people at £20 per team, or £4.00 per person if less than 6.
