Issue No 413
5th October 2007
Dear Friends of Crescent,
Parents of children throughout the school, but particularly those of children in Class V, are invited to meet representatives from senior independent schools on Wednesday evening in the Barrett Hall between 7 and 9 p.m.
This Friday all the children will have, in their brown envelopes, five invitations to the forthcoming Open Days. I would request that their families give these invitations to friends, relatives or neighbours who have children under the age of 11. Let’s give even more people the chance to see what a very good school Crescent is on either Friday, 12th or Monday, 15th October. Thank you very much in anticipation of your help in spreading the word.
In response to Charity Commission recommendations, which may become mandatory in the near future, we are exploring the possibility of creating a scheme whereby we can offer means-tested help with fees. This would need to be available to new parents only and would not be at the expense of a full-fee place as it would be targeted at the smaller classes in the school. This explains why our current advertising states that help with fees may be available.
On Monday I was pleased to make the following appointments for the term:
Librarians: Isabel Pagendam & Alex Fowkes
School Council Members:
Class V Esther Auerbach-Dunn & Joe Phillips
Class IV Emily Cheadle & Andres Gomez Quinones
Class III Charlotte Ecclestone & William Hedderwick
Class II Sophie Howes & Ollie Thomson
Class I Hannah Richards & Darya Sutton
They have all now started their jobs and are doing well.
The winner of this year’s school Christmas card competition is Hattie Byrne. Copies of her card will be produced by Pronta Print and will shortly be available to buy.
On Monday we will be having photographs taken of each class which you will then be able to purchase. I would like all the children to be in full winter uniform for these photographs, please, and for the rest of term.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
R.H. Marshall
Congratulations!
Following a recent inspection of our premises by Rugby Council’s Environmental Heath Department we are very proud to announce that, for the second year running, Crescent School’s kitchen has been awarded a Gold Star in the Food Hygiene Standards “Scores on Doors”.
This is the highest award that can be bestowed upon us, so “very well done” and “thank you” to Mrs Slatcher and her hard working team.

Representatives of many of the local independent senior schools will also be available that evening so parents of pupils in Classes IV and V are also welcome to join us.

Individual and Family Group Photographs
Monday, 8th October, 2007
commencing at 09.15 approx.
All children will be photographed individually and we will arrange for brothers and sisters who are pupils in the main school and Nursery to be photographed together. If you would like a child, not currently attending Crescent, to be included in a family group please let me know and I will make the necessary arrangements.
Please note that these children can only be included by prior arrangement with me.

Match Results
Football v Crackley Hall won 4-3
Netball v Crackley Hall lost 4-6
Past Pupils Match
On another wet day, our past pupils returned to take up the challenge of football or netball matches. It was lovely to see our “old” pupils who clearly enjoyed coming back to see us and tell us all their news.
Crescent Netball v Past Pupils lost 1-8
Crescent Football v Past Pupils won 4-1
The weather tried to dampen our fun but I’m glad to say it didn’t spoil this occasion. The cakes were also a high light of the evening and were appreciated by everyone.

Friends Of Crescent News.
It is with great pleasure that I have to inform you that we have a new Vice Chairman on the committee. She is Karen Brown, mother of Francesca (Class V) and Gabrielle (Class I). Thank you, Karen! Also thanks are due to Amanda Hunter and Kerry Lerski who have both come forward as the joint reps for Nursery, thank you to you both. We are still in need of a rep or reps for Reception and Class III due to Liz Teasdale and Karen Powell stepping down both because they have extended their hours at work. Thank you both for your commitment over the last 12 months.
I have my first team for the quiz, which is to be held in the school hall on Friday, 12th October 7.30 for 8pm. Please get your team together soon. This year we all stand a chance of winning as Mr & Mrs Forth are otherwise engaged; although I hear Mr Marshall is working on this! It’s amazing what lengths some people will go to, just so their team can remain undefeated.
We now have 17 stalls for the indulgence evening but if you know anyone who has a food related stall (preferably chocolate) we would be interested to hear from them so as to keep a good balance of stalls on the evening. There is only so much pampering one can take.
Dates for your Diary.
