Dear Friends of Crescent,
Senior School Entrance Exam Success
The first of the senior schools to ‘declare’ the results of their entrance examinations this year are Rugby School. Seven children from Class VI sat the exams – a greater number than for several years – and they have all been offered places, three with scholarships! We are delighted for them and offer many congratulations to them. They are:
Millie Byrne, Georgie Colbourne, Jack Fisher (music scholarship), Joe Miller (foundation scholarship), Isobel Pagendam, Max Thomson (foundation scholarship) and Daisy Van der Post.
Well done to all of them and to their parents and teachers who have enabled them to fulfil their potential.
Parking
Parking near the school continues to give rise to concern as some parents either have forgotten, or choose to ignore, the Highway Code. Please don’t park near junctions, to do so may be putting someone’s life at risk. There is parking available in the car park next to St. Mark’s Church in Church Walk only a few minutes walk away with no traffic to negotiate on the way.
Sport
It has been a good week for sport with children involved in cross country, netball and football. Please read the reports later in this letter.
With best wishes
Yours sincerely
R.H. Marshall

Everyone who came in the top 20 places will now go forward to three trials aiming to get in the Rugby and District team which will compete against other areas from Warwickshire in March. The First Trial is Monday, 4th February at Knightlow School, Stretton. The last trial is on Thursday,
28th Feb at Princethorpe [ muddy hill training needed for this one!]
It says a great deal about a child when they are willing to put themselves forward for a demanding physical challenge. All of our runners did well and represented their school admirably.

Netball Match Results
On Wednesday afternoon two Crescent Netball teams went to Coventry to play their first match against Bablake Junior School. We knew this would be a tough challenge playing a school with more experience of the 7 a-side games and rules. Bablake also play more independent schools in their fixtures.
The Year 6 team were a little overwhelmed at the start but rallied and persevered to be just 2-3 down at half time. In the second half Bablake continued to be quicker about the court and won by 8-3, however without our hard working and determined defence, Julia and Freya, there could have been an even bigger margin.
The Year 5 team began slowly but had a brilliant third quarter and went into the last quarter 5-4 ahead. Sadly weak marking let Bablake back into the match and they narrowly won 7-6. The team work and speed about the court of Millie and Leenah was an inspiring example to the rest of the team.
Both teams competed very well and at a much higher level than playing our local schools, I’m sure they have all learned a lot, but the lesson I’ve learned is that we must be more prepared to travel further a field to play better quality matches.
Other match results;
Crescent A beat Paddox School 9-2.
Crescent B beat Paddox School 10-4

Football Results
A and B v Bablake
A team
Crescent played Bablake on Wednesday - a repeat of the Princethorpe Tournament Final last term, which Crescent lost on penalties.
The match was evenly contested but Crescent had the better of the early exchanges, showing the best attacking play so far this term. They managed to take one of these chances half way through the first half. Tomas Marshall hit the ball on the turn and it looped over the stranded Bablake goalkeeper. An open game ensued and it was thanks to a whole host of saves by Oliver Howes and another solid performance by Daniel Marshall and Joe Phillips in defence that kept Bablake at bay. Dominic Bolton provided the most threat for Crescent in his best performance this year, creating numerous chances and linking up well with an on-form Tomas Marshall. The concerns about a repeat performance of last time (Bablake scored in the last second to take it to penalties) were eased when a three on one breakaway saw Jack Fisher in space and he slotted past the goalkeeper at the near post with seconds left. So it finished 2-0 to Crescent.
B team
The B team conceded early goals, looking to have been caught cold. Not being phased, though, they kept their shape and created some good chances. Akash Parmar had a good shot saved by the Bablake goalkeeper and Himesh Parmar defended in his trademark whole-hearted way. Jayveer Grewal lead the team well and worked hard to support both defence and attack. Despite Jack Davenport making some good saves, Bablake managed to score five goals without reply. Again, this was a school that had B team players who could quite easily have played in the A team (and one did because their match finished earlier than the A team match!) so was a real challenge for the Crescent players.

Recycling
Thank you all very much for collecting the plastic bottle tops.
I understand now from the gentleman who collected the bottle tops that the scheme for this closed on
31st January.
Many thanks once again.
