14th March 2008
Dear Friends of Crescent,
We have decided to publish end of term reports (other than those for Class I) and awards on the last Friday of term despite the fact that this term ends on a Wednesday so this will be the last newsletter of term – and what a term it has been! The children have enjoyed record success in 11+ tests both to Grammar Schools and Independent Schools, as well as our girls being crowned as Town Netball champions and the boys winning through to Wembley.
The most recent offers to independent schools have seen Lucy Chappell and Chloe Di Dato being moved up from the waiting list to being offered firm places. We are delighted for them and offer them our warmest congratulations. Typically they both feel great sympathy for their two friends who are still waiting.
In the assembly on Friday I announced the usual end of term awards as follows:

Staffing news
On Monday Mrs Forth will rejoin us after her maternity leave and we very much look forward to having her with us again. However, we will be very sad to see much less of Mrs Byrne who has taught Mrs Forth’s classes in her absence. Mrs Byrne has done such a wonderful job that she will be much missed – although she will not be leaving us completely as she will still be with us for a few hours each week.
Mrs Lowe (who is part-time but you would hardly know it!) has asked if she can have a little more time away from school and Mrs Byrne has kindly agreed to take over her History classes for the summer term.
Mr Webb underwent a relatively minor surgical procedure on his heart on Monday, was home on Tuesday and will be back with us for the last few days of term. The procedure would appear to have been a complete success.
Next Term
The term will begin on Wednesday, 9th April but Holiday Club will run from Thursday, 3rd April.
Classes III and IV will need their swimming kit on the first day of term.
Rehearsals for The Pirates of Penzance will take place on Mondays after school.
There is a meeting scheduled on Wednesday,
16th April in the evening for the parents of children in Class VI going on the environmental field studies course at Slapton in Devon.
There will be an Open Morning on Saturday,
19th April for prospective and existing parents, relatives and friends. All pupils other than those in the Nursery are required to attend.
On Saturday, 26th April our football team will be playing at Wembley!!!
Other times and dates will be published in the summer term’s calendar early next term.
It remains for me to wish you a relaxing and peaceful Easter.
With best wishes
Yours sincerely
R.H. Marshall
Swimming Gala Monday 17th March.
Everyone in classes 3 to 6 takes part in our swimming gala. The children will be bussed to the RUGBY SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL so ALL parents should collect their children at
3:50 pm from the RUGBY SCHOOL SPORTS CENTRE [If you have younger children at school then please collect them from school at the normal time and then follow onto the sports centre].
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR SWIMMING KIT. Every year at least two children forget [and some years we get into double figures]. Let’s make this year a first and get 100% of children remembering to BRING THEIR KIT.
Once we get over the swimming kit problem we usually have a brilliant time with a mixture of serious and fun races and relays.

Match Reports
Class IV played their first match and it was, in fact, the first Year 4 match the school had ever played.
Bablake were a little more experienced and deservedly took the lead early on. Crescent struggled to settle into the match and conceded regularly. As the half went on, though, they began to play some intelligent football, passing and finding space in a professional manner. William Hedderwick and Fabrizio Pagliarini worked the keeper but he was up to the challenge. The noise level from the excellent supporters rose as Crescent started to match Bablake.
In the second half, Crescent continued to improve and, although Bablake kept pressing and scored another two goals, Crescent grabbed a goal of their own. Fabrizio Pagliarini switched the ball to the reliable Luke Armstrong who finished in style.
The celebrations were on a par with those that greeted Crescent’s progression to Wembley! Andres Gomez played no small part in making the second half score 2-1 with some really good saves including a penalty.
The final score was 7-1 but for a first outing this was a promising performance especially considering the small number of boys in Years 3 and 4.

Crescent are Town Champions at Netball.
Last night crescent hosted the middle Schools netball Finals tournament. We were lucky to play at all with the recent weather pattern! Many thanks to ALL staff who helped out on the night, even Mr Stuttard was seen pouring cups of tea. The cakes were very much appreciated too. Millie Byrne and Hiba did a great job with the stop watch and bell and ran the tournament for me!
Every match was closely contested. The Crescent team, perhaps not quite playing their best, but doggedly worked hard on court and played well as a team as they have done all season.
Crescent won four matches on the trot and their final match was against Eastlands who were very strong, we lost that match 2 goals to
4.
However, it proved to be just enough to give us a better goal average than Dunchurch and so by the narrowest of margins, of one goal, we won the Tournament and Dunchurch was second.
So the Crescent Team are Town champions. I think this team really does deserve this. We've had a great season, no upsets, no squabbling only fun and good friendship. They have represented the school brilliantly.
Alison McLean [3 goals], Georgie [2], Julia [3], Josie [2], Freya [4], Evie [1], Chloe [2].
Mrs Gove,
